It is difficult to call it a copy
A painting that conveys a very special impression is the
magnificent copy of Titian’s allegorical painting, Sacred
and Profane Love recreated by F. Wagner on porcelain. It
is noted that the Wagner family remained one of the
prolific figures of German painting on porcelain plaques for
many years—authors of many unique copies, absorbed
with the aspiration to convey a feeling that exceeds the
material world. Their family’s fine works compose a vital
part of many private collections. However, the fact that
every member of the family would sign their name as
“Wagner” upon the completion of their work is not widely
known. The copy created by F. Wagner, as well as the
original, is executed in a light, delightful cheerfulness. It is
difficult to call it a copy as the artist had taken charge of
all his available materials and created the piece as his own
expression of art. Wagner made the figures more precise
and light, giving the whole painting a surprising reality and
tangibility
